X (formerly Twitter) doesn't have a button to save videos to your phone. You can like them or add them to Bookmarks, but that only works inside the app and with a connection. To keep the video as a file on your Android phone, the easiest way is to download it from your browser with Velotu.
Step by step with Chrome
- In the X app, open the post that has the video.
- Tap the Share icon (the arrow pointing up) and choose Copy link.
- Open Chrome and go to velotu.com/en/x.
- Tap and hold the box, tap Paste and then Download.
- Pick a quality. Chrome will show a notification when it's done.

Which quality should I choose?
X stores each video in several resolutions. Velotu shows them all with their approximate size so you can decide:
- 480×270 or 640×360: very small files, ideal if you're low on data or storage.
- 1280×720 (HD): a good balance between quality and size for watching on your phone.
- 1920×1080 or 4K: the best quality, when the creator uploaded the video that way. The highest quality unlocks after you watch a short ad.
Where is the video?
In your phone's Downloads folder. You can open it from the Files app (or "My Files" on Samsung). Your gallery and Google Photos usually show it in the Downloads album.
If something goes wrong
- The account is private or the post was deleted: in those cases the video can't be downloaded.
- The post has several videos: the first one is downloaded. Open the video you need and copy its direct link.
- You pasted a twitter.com link: it works exactly like an x.com link.
Why not use a downloader app?
The app store is full of apps for downloading X videos, but they often ask for permissions they don't need, flood your phone with ads or stop working whenever X changes something. With Velotu there's nothing to install: it runs in Chrome and you're always on the latest version.
Save data while downloading
If you're on mobile data, check the size Velotu shows next to each quality. A short video in low resolution can be just a few hundred KB, while the same video in 4K can be over 30 MB. If you can, wait until you're on Wi-Fi to download the highest qualities.
Frequently asked questions
- Do I need an X account? No. Just the link to a public post.
- Does it work with Spaces or live streams? Velotu downloads videos published in posts, not audio from Spaces or streams that are still live.
- Is it free? Yes. Only the highest quality asks you to watch a short ad.
Tip: Have an iPhone? The process is almost the same, but the video ends up in the Files app. See how to move it to Photos in our iPhone guide for X videos.
